There are a lot of reviews of this, so I will start with a point that no one has yet made. Please take a moment to consider, and even look up the abusive treatment of geese to produce those luxurious down comforters everyone is so hooked on. I dare you to watch a video of it. Now think for a moment of sheep that are made more comfortable through annual shearing--their parasites controlled, the mats removed for the hot summer months. The ancient tradition of using goose down wasn't even similar to the travesty we practice today. I have pet geese, and I won't participate in this cruelty any more, though I've owned countless goose down comforters and pillows over the years in my ignorance. You may be a vegetarian, and I applaud you for it. I am not. I believe in humane use of farm animals. Commercial use in this country is not humane. Now on to the comforter! I wanted to sleep under it in warm weather before reviewing, but then thought I might be waiting a bit, since we live in the mountains and experience cool nights year-round. It is far more cozy and comfy than down. It stays put, looks neat, etc. Don't let the "lack of loft" fool you! It is lightweight and feels much like down--only better. You will love it. I am positive.

  • Excellent comforter!

For the last 2 years, I have been researching different comforters but because of already having enough blankets on my bed, I decided against buying one until now...and I'm glad I waited, because I made the right choice! I have slept under various down comforters all which I have really loved, they have varied from minimal fill 250 to a higher fill of 700. Only the high, high fill down comforters have been enough for me to sleep under alone (I run cold) and so I was nervous about buying one with a fill of only 600. Additionally, there were the issues about losing down, uneven down distribution, potential allergies, and cost. When I found this wool filled comforter, I read all the reviews and also did outside research about wool. Everything says wool makes for a great comforter and it keeps you very WARM! In addition, the wool will never leak outside of the comforter, it's hypoallergenic, the wool is evenly distributed amongst the squares, and the cost is EXCELLENT for the value! The only thing I could imagine one wouldn't like is the heaviness of the comforter, but I appreciate a little weight in my blanket... And as others mentioned, there's a slight smell with the comforter (extremely minimal). I got a king size to go with my queen bed (I prefer it to hang down the sides). I also got a great duvet cover to go with it. This is a great purchase!

Construction is 10 1/2 x 11-inch box-stitched, which is great. This comforter repels dust mites because it is wool-filled, must be dry cleaned, but it is very warm and cozy.

  • Wool Comforter is the way to go

I am a wool comforter convert. I will no longer buy down comforters. The wool comforter provides all the warmth and coziness of a down comforter without all the dust. Plus the wool comforter stays in place at night. Each qulted sqaure of wool is heavier than the down (although, the overall feel of the comforter is not too heavy) and it moves less. Also, the wool comforter doesn't bunch within the duvet cover like the down comforter so the overall effect is warmer. This wool comforter had no funny smell and I am very sensitive to smells. Say goodbye to down and try wool!

Haven't put the duvet on the bed yet because I'm still looking for the right cover, and so far it's been warmer than usual much of this winter, so a lighter weight quilt and blanket have been fine. The duvet does seem to be a nice weight, not too heavy, and I know, having used wool blankets, that it will provide a cozy amount of warmth without overheating. It was also a great bargain, being on sale and using Club O rewards. Nevertheless, I'm thinking about returning the item because 86 x 86 inches is rather short for two sleepers (one of whom shifts a lot during the night) in a queen bed. I know the product is sized F/Q, and this is my fault for not paying closer attention to the dimensions before I ordered. Still, I have yet to see a F/Q and certainly not a Q duvet cover in this size; most of them are 2 inches wider, at minimum, and 6-10 inches longer. So, that's a lot of empty space in a traditional-sized cover unless I tailor it to the squareness of this duvet. This was the last item to transition our master bed fully to natural fibers, but I may need to return and keep looking for a wool (or silk) filled duvet that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but also doesn't shortchange you on size.

This is a wonderful product! I would not call it 4 season but then that depends on where and how you live. We live in the mountains in Colorado & during the summer we sleep with only the sheets because we don't use air conditioning. But for the remaining 3 seasons I believe we could use it comfortably. It has more weight to it than down but I find that comforting, It's also not as hot as down, but still quite warm, more like a heavy quilt (that comforting feeling or weight and warmth most love). This was an extremely good buy; excellent quality, I personally will keep a lightweight duvet cover on it to protect it since it will need to be dry cleaned. I feel I personally will dry clean it once/year in the summer before storing it away to protect it in order for it to last many years. I have a heavy down comforter (700 fill power) that we've tried to make work but it's simply too hot even were we live. It depends on the area you live in, when we lived in another state with a lot of wind, we needed the warmth of the heavy down, but no we have colder temps but no wind & very little humidity so my husband & I are always hot under the down; again it depends on so many variable. I personally found this wool comforter to be an excellent alternative to another down blanket or comforter. Great product!! Extremely well made! warm but not hot! We sleep under it with our house kept at 62-63 degrees and are very comfortable; we've used it in slightly warmer times & still been very comfortable depending on the weight of the sheets used with it, heavier sheets can add a lot of heat too. I have several sets ranging from 420TC to 650TC and alternate according to the weather. Using all natural products as 100% cotton and good quality wool help comfort levels when sleeping tremendously. Great Product!!

As usual I received this item from Overstock very quickly. I opened the box and smelled wool immediately. I spread out the comforter and left town for a few days. When I returned I could smell the woolly smell. But in defense of the wool.....it is wool. No doubt about it. It has been well over 2 mos now and I can't smell the woolly smell anymore. It is heavy, but comfortable to sleep under for me. I sleep with windows wide open or cracked open year round. This comforter keeps me cool or warm. Although it says manufactured in CHINA from Australian wool, I have to believe it could be CHINESE wool marketed under the Australian moniker. The Chinese are the biggest producers of wool. But yeah, it works for me. No feather dander, sneezing, shifting fill, or too hot. If NATURAL fiber is your thing I would highly suggest you invest in this comforter.

  • Not an alternative- but a better option

Has many advantages over down, in that there are no thin spots and is more comfortable at varying temperatures. Maintains body temperature without feeling too hot. Comforter is on the heavier side of medium thickness- just right! I did not have any issues with odor as some have had. Really, all of these comforters are insulation, but I find wool to be superior in more damp and humid environments because it has the unique quality of heating when exposed to moisture. Supposedly dust mites do not like it as well. The box stitching holds the comforter together much better than my old one. No clumps! Also, wool is extremely fire resistant. I was skeptical about its ability to be all season until I tried it. I found that it really depended on my own body temperature rather than ambient temp. It will simply maintain body temp by the way of many air pockets. This comforter is filled with Australian Wool which is commonly Merino. This type of wool has a very fine, crimpy, structure which means there are more air pockets, and therefore superior insulative properties (increased R-value).

I started searching for a comforter for the first time after deciding our 100% polyester bed-in-a-bag was no longer cutting it; the fabric wasn't breathable and had worn down after just a year. So I looked into down and alternative down comforters but found that most of them, while cotton on the outside, were still made of polyester. So I bought this wool-filled one and so far am really happy with it. Upon receiving it, I noticed just a very slight smell to it so I let it air out by our windows for 2 days. The comforter was thinner and lighter than I expected, but rest assured it has kept us very warm in this Chicago winter! The weight is perfect with our cotton duvet cover. Love that it is all natural fibers: no more sweating throughout the night. Highly recommended!

We have had this quilted comforter on our bed for about a month, through some cold days in January and February and we are very comfortable with it. We put it on top of our sheet and then we have a cotton quilt inside our duvet cover that goes atop the wool quilt. You would think all these layers are too much, but not for us. We find it all makes for a cozy bed. Because the wool and cotton covers are natural fibers, they "breather", unlike some poly-filled comforters we've had in the past, which were hot and came apart at the seems very quickly. I did notice a funky smell when first opening the package, but i spread it out over some chairs for a couple of days to air out and now you would never know it was there. We live in North Carolina piedmont where it doesnt get super cold so this was just right got us!

I purchased this because I needed an autumn weight blanket. It far exceeds my expectations in quality, beauty and performance. Right out of the package there was no sheepy smell... the cotton cover is so soft and plush it feels like suede. I have it in a 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton duvet cover which is very thin and light. I have been comfortable on all nights cooler than 60 degrees.... I couldn't use it in the summer as they imply in the 'all seasons' title. In winter, It may replace my down comforter (which was my first overstock.com purchase some 10 years ago) Tag states it is made in China of English wool

I was happy to find a wool filled comforter as it is more sustainable then down and I felt would eliminate the inevitable feathers floating around. The comforter fit perfectly inside my duvet cover and has loops to attach to keep it from moving inside. (my duvet cover is too cheap to have those attachments so am not using them, but thought it a nice feature.) The covering is very sturdy and feels thick for the thread count. I did notice a chemical type smell when I first unwrapped it, probably from the cleaning process - not unlike the foam mattress initial smell. I aired it for about 2 days over a chair and the smell is gone. I've been toasty warm and LOVE it! I do live in LA vs somewhere like Alaska, but am always rather cold and this is the cure!!! It isn't as heavy as I feared from other reviews, weighs about 10#. I love the weight of covers in winter though so again am very satisfied.

  • Better than down!

While recently in the German Alps I had the chance to sleep under a wool duvet and was very surprised at how warm and comfortable it was. I honestly never knew there was such a thing because everyone is always talking about down, which in my opinion is pretty smelly. Right away when I got home I began to search for a wool duvet and found the price to be several hundred dollars so I was very happy to find one at a much smaller price on Overstock. I purchased this comforter about a month ago and have been sleeping under it ever since. When it arrived I took it out of the package, draped it over a few chairs, opened the window and put a few fans on it to air it out. The smell was gone in a few hours so there really is no need to worry about the smell of the comforter because I have a very sensitive nose and could smell nothing after airing it out. It smells much better than down. As far as being too hot, I have not run into that yet. I live in Eastern NC where it can be very warm in the fall. I have slept under this on nights that were in the upper 70's and still haven't got too warm underneath. I will just have to wait for summer to see if I can use it then. The only time I feel an uncomfortable heat or hot spot is when my cat gets on the bed and lays on me while I am sleeping, but its only hot where he lays. Its as though our body heat is at war or something, but I am sure he enjoys the "hot spot" more than I do. As one ofther reviewer mentioned I have also seen a wool comforter at one of the bit warehouse stores, but they only them in queen size and the price was still only 20 dollars less than what the king size costs on Overstock. So I don't really see how the price isn't right because it was just fine for me. Great value for the money.

I love this comforter. I cannot use down and hate synthetics. I have been using the silk-filled one from Overstock and it is great but I wanted something a little warmer for the coldest days of winter. This wool one fills the bill. It is very well made and had absolutely no odd smell right out of the container. I do not consider it to be a year-round comforter. I believe it would be too warm in the summer, but that is yet to be seen. I plan to use my silk one for the summer months and the wool one for the winter. I cannot see how anyone could be disappointed by the product.

I was looking for down, when I spotted this. I have been using it a week and have it inside a duvet cover with a flat sheet on the bed as well. I think this makes the quilt feel a little heavier than I expected,it is a good winter weight. I was thinking this would be more of my summer quilt. The size is good, maybe a tad short on the sides for my very over sized mattress, 2 more inches on each side would have been perfect.

I've never owned a wool-filled comforter, only alternative down which is quite heavy. This new one is everything promised and more. First off, it came with very little packaging smell and I am very sensitive to that sort of thing. I did hang it on the line outside for a couple hours just to freshen it after being packaged. The hand of the fabric is very soft and the stuffing is flat and evenly quilted. Not too heavy even when covered with a duvet. Fits a queen duvet perfectly. I'm slim and run a bit cold and this comforter is cozy warm over a top sheet so I find myself just right or a bit warm now in the summer. Could be too warm for you hot-bloooded folks, would save for cooler weather. Don't think I'll need a top blanket with it in the winter. Yeah! I'm ordering another one for my daughter. The best part is that it feels like you're wrapped up in a teddy bear. It's that soft! You won't be disappointed. Shipped promptly too.

We struggled for almost a year to find temperature comfort after purchasing a very expensive memory foam mattress. I looked high and low on the internet (U.S., England, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Canada) for information on wool and cotton bedding and ordered the cotton sheet set, duvet cover and wool-filled comforter. All of them exceed my expectations! The thickness of the comforter is great. We received it in October when the weather was still warmish and now it is below the teens at night and is still keeping us warm with the temp in the bedroom in the upper 50's, These things, in combination with a fleece wool mattress pad keep a regulated temperature with no more feeling hot on your back and cold on the top. The cover and sheets are perfectly thick, comfortable, NO PILLING and look great. I chose darker sheets and a lighter cover after reading a review that pet hair shows on a dark cover. Both the cover and sheets do wrinkle slightly but is not an issue for me. (My mom still irons her pillow cases, for that unwrinkled look.)

This our second wool comforter. We bought one and loved it. They are a great weight and very comfortable all year around. In Summer they breath well and don't get overly hot. In Winter we keep the window open at night and temps get down to around 55 when it's cold and we are still very comfortable. We prefer the wool to down. I suppose I have a soft spot in my heart because I grew up with a quilt my grandmother made that was filled with wool batting but I did use down for years. In the end I prefer wool and this is a high quality example.

I am very particular about my bed and linens. My bed was purchased from an upscale store which sells mattresses made from natural products with no toxic chemicals. My linens are from Coyuchi. I have been looking for a silk or wool comforter as I am allergic to down. Most that I’ve found have been in the *** range. I did not have high hopes for one priced at less than ***. I ordered the King as some reviewers mentioned shrinkage. I folded the excess length under at the bottom which creates a double layer for my feet; the comforter is inside a duvet cover. The weight is nice - not too heavy, not too light. It is breathable. I like to sleep in a cold room - 50 degree weather in Maine last night, no heat on - and I was warm enough with this comforter inside a duvet and no top sheet. I did not notice any smell, something I am also sensitive to. The comforter has a nice cotton cover which is not too slippery in the duvet. I am very pleased with my first Overstock purchase and have recommended it to friends.
