We wanted a crib in our new house for our two year old grandson to have sleep overs. He does love his new crib! Our biggest concern is that the sides are lower than we expected and the child stands at waist high, so falling out head first can be dangerous. (And our 2 year old is rather short!) For most two year olds that like to jump on their mattress, this could be reason enough not to buy this crib for older toddlers. It did not come with a mattress so we bought a nice one for the crib, which may be taller than a thinner portable crib mattress, adding an inch or two to the child's stand. We didn't want a crib you had to put together. Though this was very hard to snap off the plastic ties holding it together for mailing, you only needed to put on the wheels, if you want to use them. (We put them on and it rolls very easy on carpet, but also can lock in place.) We wanted a crib that folds up, when he gets too old for it, and we can use it for company staying. This crib folds very easily, once you take out the mattress. We solved the problem with our Jack falling out by purchasing from Australia a "tent" for "$XXX" that is wonderful and makes the crib usable now. We really love the crib but didn't want him landing on his head. The "tent" is strong netting that pops up like a tent and the mattress goes in it (so the tent is under and high over the crib, held up by extension support .) Jack can stand in the crib and not hit his head on the top. The whole thing is strong netting, with an outside thick zipper, but air can circulate from a fan and you can still see the child through a monitor camera. He absolutely loves his "tent" to sleep in (took 6 days to mail to us ) and we absolutely love knowing he can't fall out and we know where he is when we are sleeping..in his zipped up tent! Now we can use the crib with peaceful minds.
This is a great crib for us, being grandparents we did not want to have a crib up all the time. This was does close up and you can store under the bed or a closet. There are not many parts to put it together, however, it was a little difficult. I originally thought I could do it...No, I had to ask a neighbor for help. Standard sheets do not fit it. I bought the ones called play yard sheets at target and they fit great. Something else to consider because it is smaller than a standard crib, you can't find any bumper pads to fit it. All in all I like it.
Some people are wary of portable cribs thinking they are flimsy or less reliable than a standard full size crib; however, this crib is excellent. Foundations manufactures cribs of excellent quality! I use these in my business so they get a lot of use, but they are sturdier and more reliable than most standard cribs. This is great if you don't have a lot of room, or for a grandparents house as it will be usable for years (as long as your child still needs a crib). The only downside is the fact that you have to bend all the way over to pick up or put in your baby, so for a newborn it would be a pain and uncomfortable, but as they get older, this is definitely a great crib to have.
