I got this gate for my bedroom doorway as it is right near a set of stairs! THe gate is very nice, but you can not work it with one hand! you need to slide the red piece then lift the lever, which takes more than one hand! also I did not want to make holes in the wall so I thought the fact that it was a pressure mounted gate, I would not have to make any holes, but if you put the gate safely tight with the torque needed to keep it firm then the safety lever does not fit right it goes past the opening! THe gate is okay it is up and all is well but I would never ever suggest it for the top of stairs! Maybe it would be better if I attached it to the wall, but that is not an option!THis is all the manufacture, not overstock! they offered a nice gate for a great price , even better free shipping!! Hope this helps Mom of 4 and an RN on Cape.
I have been looking for a reasonable priced walk through baby gate to use for a while now. We keep the back of our house dog free so the 2 cats have a place to roam. We have a 103lb lab, and a 87lb german shep mix. This gate was put up easily and works very nice. Before we were using a cheap wood/plastic gate that we would step over...it messed up the walls and we often tripped over it! this eliminated both problems. I can walk thru either direction, vacuum under it...the cats can go under it too! We put it up so it is a litter higher than you would want for children..but our kids are our animals. We also used longer screws than what it came with-just to make sure we hit a stud in the wall. Who doesn't have a box or baggie of random screws in their house? so no additional cost. :) I would order it again, it arrived very quickly....and it does have a warranty.
I didn't realize that this was not supposed to be used for the top of the stairs, because of the cross bar at the bottom of the gate opening is a tripping hazard. Instead of having it go across the stairs I just gated off a bigger area, which included the top of the steps, but set up in a way that no one could end up tripping down the steps. It has worked out just fine. Used the left over panels to gate off my entertainment center, mounted with an eye hook. I love this so much, it is HUGE. I actually bought two, because it's a great price for such a massive area that it can cover. Gate is not too difficult to open and shut and can be done with one hand. My 11 month old hasn't figured out the locking mechanism, yet, but can open it if I don't latch it completely. I would really only recommend this if you are planning on mounting it to the wall, not as a free standing gate. It is pretty light and easy to move around. No real problems with it. Happy with my purchase.
Great purchase. Ordered three of these and am satisfied. The gate is tall enough that my toddler cannot try to climb over. Very easy setup and rubber stoppers protect the door frame so there is no damage done. The latch is easy enough to maneuver one handed and can be opened both inward and outward. The door is also spring loaded, so it bounces back and re-latches when you release it.
