The DC50 Animal from Dyson is a lightest upright vacuum that weighs just 11.6 pounds and has the performance of a full-size upright. This vacuum includes a self-adjusting base plate for optimal contact on every floor type, a brush bar with anti-static carbon fiber bristles to remove fine dust from hard floors and stiff nylon bristles to remove ground-in dirt from carpets. As a bonus, you will also receive a multi-angle brush, soft dusting brush and the Flexi crevice tool. Like all Dyson vacuums, DC50 Animal has no bag, so there's no loss of suction. Instead, patented cyclone technology spins dust and dirt from the air. With two Tier Radial cyclones, the DC50 Animal has 19 cyclones that work in parallel to increase airflow and capture more microscopic dust from the home.

Very happy, with minor quibbles
We purchased the DC50 after years of satisfied ownership of a DC17 (which is now the "upstairs vacuum"). The self-adjusting cleaning head on the DC50 is wonderful. It did a noticeably better job cleaning cat fur off of the family room carpet compared to the old Dyson. The only major complaint is the same one I have seen in many other reviews here — the waste bin is too small. Also, while I understand that the goal of the DC50 was to create a much smaller, lightweight upright, it feels a little too lightweight and a little too cheap. That said, it cleans very well and we are very happy with it.
