I own all kinds of fans because I really don't care for air-conditioning. Plus, I live in the Northeast in an old house that is very sold in the winter. I've tried everything to keep warm, along with the furnace, etc. and my heating bills are still outrageous. This particular fan is small, gives off enough cold air, and also heat when you want it to keep you and whovever's within about 15 feet of it warm. For me, that's fine. I have a large living room opening to a dining room, stairway etc and I don't need those to be heated more than the furnace--nor do they need the cold air. Sitting on the couch with the fan/heater nearby is fine. It's pretty quiet, too. And it doesn't get in the way, either.
