Bed took approx. 45 min. to put together with 2 of us working on it. Seems very sturdy. Took about a day for the headboard to smooth out from the creases caused by the packaging. It came with approx. 10 bed slats, but we purchased a foam matress, so we felt it was best to also put a piece of plywood on top of the slats so the bottom of our mattress would not get ruined. I think it is odd that a "platform" bed would not be built specifically for a mattress without a box sping.
