Many reviews mentioned the chemical smell. It was there but I kept the suitcase open in a well ventilated space and the odor went away. I think I also used Febreze or the such. My advise to you -- don't buy this immediately before the trip. Now the suitcase may only have the trace of that plastic smell, but it is not transferred to the clothes inside. Durable; good wheels and handle. Good deal for the money. Pretty accurate representation of color (I bought the rusty-orange one). Survived several flights so far. I am a big fan of cheaper luggage because the cheap and the expensive ones last for about the same; moreover, they get dirty and worn-out at about the same rate, so you can keep replacing the cheap ones every several years or so and your luggage always looks neat.
