Comfortable homage to a timeless classic.
from Los Angeles, CA,  Jun 10, 2011

I got mine today, five days after ordering! It arrived well packaged and in undamaged condition via FedEx. I would not expect to pay this low price and see a Fritz Hansen name denoting it to be a real licensed Arne Jacobsen Swan Chair, but if you happen to know the difference, this chair will not be fooling anyone. The main visible difference is the real chair has pleated stitching and this homage has piping, and the front/top surface of this chair is made of two hides, jojned at the fold, again with piping. The real chair has one single piece of leather for the front/top side and this seamless appearance and taut leather is one of the most striking features of the original. There is no fire label on this chair, meaning that there is no way to tell if it's a legal piece of furniture in the USA. The leather may or may not be real leather, but it is hard to tell it is not faux leather. I have been fooled before by perfumed perforated vinyl masquerading as real leather on Chinese chairs and I'm really not sure if this is leather or not. If it turns out to be vinyl, then I would have preferred to have bought the microfiber fabric chair from O.co at just ***. I don't like vinyl. It may be some kind of waterproofed leather but I just wiped it with a wet towel and that water is not being absorbed in any way, and there is no strong leather smell that you would expect from a new chair delivered on a hot day. On the good side, O.co sold this chair for *** and a real Swan chair in leather is between $7,000 and $8,000 if you can find one. I would never pay $7,000 plus for one of these despite my love for the design and I will happily make do with this homage version. I may even buy a second one after trying it out for a couple of months. The comfortable seating position and proportions have been copied well. I think the one thing I would change would be the pleating. The piping looks wrong and they should have copied the pleating from the original, after all they copied everything else so why not?
