We are very happy with this log set. We stopped using our wood-burning fireplace because I am sensative to smoke, and hated losing all of our house heat up the flu every time we had a fire. But I missed the coziness and ambience of a fire burning in our living room. I looked at a gas conversion, but it was pricey and we still wanted the option of having a log fire. I also looked at electrical fake fires, but they just don't cut it. I read lots of reviews and they all seemed positive, so we bought a set. We decided to get the larger (24 inch) set which was inexplicably cheaper than the 18 inch set. It takes 3 gel cans, which may be why it is less popular, but we actually like it better because it gives you the flexibility of using 1, 2 or 3 cans. Because it has 3 spaces for the flame, when you use only one gel can, it has a very nice flame in the middle, which is enough to give the appearance of a cozy little fire. With the 3 cans it makes a bigger fire display which is nice when you want it to look more like a roaring fire. This is flexibility that the 18 inch, with only 2 spaces for flame doesn't have (it wouldn't look right to me to have flame only on one side). The set was easy to put together, except for the screw hole machining which wasn't quite accurate enough. We had to struggle to get 2 of the small logs screwed into place. But once in, it looks and works great. Despite what I read in some reviews, there is absolutely NO smell. And I am extremely scent and smoke sensitive, so I was a bit worried. I can smell nothing at all when the gel flame is burning (what a relief) until it reaches the very end of the can. Then it has a faint odor briefly. I think they improved the fuel and some earlier reviews may have been users of earlier types. Also, if you forget to take off the label, I suppose it is possible the label might have a smell if it burns. I LOVE the crackling sound - it really creates the illusion that there is a real wood fire. And the flame is very irregular and also looks like a real wood flame - better than some gas fireplace flames. I think if they could find a way to cover the tops of the cans a bit more (you can see them if you are standing over the log set) you would really assume this is a wood fire unless you look closely. We are very please with it!
- How did the color on site compare with the actual product? It looks exactly as pictured
- Please tell us about the quality of the product. Pretty high quality with one exception, the holes/fittings for screwing the top logs to the holder were not machined accurately enough and we had a struggle getting them secured. Otherwise seems very high quality.
- How accurate was the on site description of the product? Very accurate. It was exactly as described.
