Moved in my first apartment and wanted a bed that was a bit unconventional. Saw the good reviews on this bed and went with it. It arrived in three heavy boxes, which I could not carry from the mailroom to my apartment. Luckily, I'd hired a handyman to put the bed together and he carried them up for me. I can't speak on the ease of assembly since I didn't do it myself, but my handyman had the bed completely assembled in under an hour and a half. I had to prop up two pieces for him while he screwed them together, which leads me to believe that this is a two-person assembly job. As the other reviewers have said, the bed is a heavy, good quality wood and is very attractive looking. One of the pieces arrived with a small scratch/dent in the wood, but it wasn't serious enough for me to make a fuss about it. The mattress slats screw in, unlike some cheaper beds I've seen with slats that just kinda sit there. I am using a normal-profile box spring and mattress, which I would recommend to give the bed some height. Since the headboard piece is so high, the additional height of the box spring doesn't diminish the look in any way. Also, I'm pretty sure a box spring is necessary, though I think some of the reviews/Q&A say otherwise. All in all, I'm very pleased with this purchase.
