There is no substitute for great storytelling. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick's re-imagined tale of the exodus of the twelve colonies should be watched by anyone with an interest in the most important issues facing us today. The writing is top-notch, the acting is incredible, and the cinema verite style that is a staple of the show sucks you in. There aren't the usual trek-like wonder fixes for problems, there's very little techno-babble, and in this story-arc format, wounds don't miraculously heal on next week's episode. It's gritty, so make sure your kids are mature enough to handle it, but the series as a body of work is a masterpiece that you can enjoy whether you are into science fiction or not.
