When you want a deep clean, steam cleaners are the perfect home appliance for you. Generally, steam cleaners have become most popular for granting new life to carpets, but there is a variety of steam cleaners for several purposes. When you need a high-powered cleaner to get you out of a big mess or something with enough power to erase months, or even years, of collected dirt and wear, a steam cleaner is the way to go. Make sure to pick out the right type of steam cleaner for you.

Steam Cleaner Types:

  1. Canister and upright steam cleaners: Upright steam cleaners resemble the look of an upright vacuum. Usually, these types of steam cleaners are built to be carpet cleaners. Carpet steam cleaners have powerful but gentle scrub brushes to scrub your carpet after it is steamed. They also come with a suction feature to pick up dirt and debris off the floor like a vacuum. This is probably the most common steam cleaner and the one people are most familiar with.

  2. Commercial steam cleaners: Although there are commercial steam cleaners for just about every surface, the most common are carpet steam cleaners. These are very similar to canister and upright steam cleaners, but they are quite a bit more powerful. On the other hand, they are also significantly more expensive. Commercial steam cleaners usually come with a bar at the top to push the steam cleaner across the floor with two hands.

  3. Handheld steam cleaners: A handheld steam cleaner is usually used to clean hard surfaces. The most common model resembles a tea pot, with a button on the thumb to release a stream of hot steam that breaks up dirt.

  4. Hard-floor steam cleaners: These floor steam cleaners are designed to clean rooms with hard floors, such as the kitchen or bathroom, or any room with tile or hardwood floors. Also called steam mops, they function pretty much like a standard mop except they release steam to make them quite a bit more effective. Unlike canister steam cleaners, a steam mop won't have a suction feature to suck up and store dirt.
