Tailored bedskirts pull together your bedding

Whether pleated or ruffled, bedskirts are a great way to add polish to your bedroom. Bedskirts, also commonly referred to as dust ruffles, are placed over the box spring to disguise it and make your bedding look more cohesive. While bedskirts add style to a room, they can often shift or sag when you make the bed. To keep your bedskirt looking neat with minimal effort, a few tricks can help you achieve the look you're going for without costing much money. Keep reading to discover the top 5 ways to keep bedskirts in place.

Keep Your Bedskirt in Place:

  1. Try upholstery tacks. If you plan on using the same bedskirt for awhile, your best bet is to directly tack it on to your box spring mattress. To get a perfect fit, arrange your bedskirt where you want it and then place a tack on each of the four corners to hold it in place. If you have a larger bed, you may want to place a tack on each side as well; this will prevent pulling and tearing when you move your mattress.

  2. Place Velcro strips. If you plan on switching out your bedskirt often, Velcro is a versatile solution for keeping the dust ruffle in place. Place one three-inch strip right on the box spring and place your bed skirt on top, inside out. After marking where you want the adjoining Velcro side to go, simply sew or affix the backing onto the bedskirt with fabric glue. Do this for each bedskirt you plan on using and you'll have a simple way to switch up your look that stays in place.

  3. Utilize a fitted sheet. Adding a little bit of friction between the box spring and bedskirt can often solve the problem of a slipping skirt. Place a fitted sheet over your box spring before positioning the bed skirt on it, then carefully put your mattress back on top. Make sure to choose a solid colored sheet that will not show through the bedskirt for optimal results.

  4. Choose a non-slip rug grip. For a virtually indistinguishable option, cut a small rectangle from a sheet of non-slip rug backing and place it in the center of your box spring mattress. This solution is great for platform beds or when using tacks or pins is not an option.

  5. Use safety pins. Similar to using upholstery tacks, safety pinning a dust ruffle or bedskirt to your box spring will ensure that it stays where you want it. Safety pins are easy to remove and won't damage bedding. If you have children or pets, make sure to place safety pins away from the edge so they don't come undone when kids and animals play on the bed or the mattress shifts.
