You may have wanted to transfer data between your various electronic devices, but were unsure of the best way to get your data from point A to point B. Storage and blank media devices allow you to record and store data like video, audio and other documents. Then you can transfer those files from your storage media to your MP3 player, laptop computer or camcorder. Here are the top five types of storage media commonly used with electronic devices.

Blank Media Storage:

  1. CD-R or CD-RW discs: CD-Rs are recordable compact discs that support several file formats, including audio files, digital images and text documents. Blank storage media discs, like CD-Rs, are compatible with CD-RW drives on a computer. CD-RW discs are rewritable versions of CD-R discs.

  2. BD-R discs: If you want to store high-definition video or storage media with a larger storage capacity, consider transferring files to a recordable Blu-ray disc, or BD-R. These blank storage media discs can store up to 50 gigabytes of data. You can then play them on a compatible Blu-ray player or Blu-ray drive. Blu-ray discs are used primarily in personal computers, video game consoles, music players and Blu-ray home theater systems. These blank storage media store high-resolution images and high-definition video and sound.

  3. Mini-DVD-R or DVD-RW: Storage media, like mini-DVD-R and DVD-RW discs, are suitable for some digital camcorders and can record and play high-resolution video. DVD-RWs are erasable storage media and can erase and re-record up to 1,000 times. Mini-DVD-Rs and mini DVD-RWs are smaller than a DVD and are used for digital audio recording, capturing still images, storing business presentations and other data.

  4. Digital VHS: Digital VHS are storage media designed for capturing high-definition video. These storage media are compatible with certain digital video players to deliver high-resolution video and audio. You can maximize the hours of video stored on storage media like VHS by reducing the video quality.

  5. Flash cards or USB memory sticks: These storage media are very compact and hold a large amount of data. Flash cards and memory sticks are designed to read and record at high speeds and are ultimately portable. Flash cards and memory sticks are best used for saving and storing large digital documents, audio files, image files and digital presentations. These storage media are great because they are rewritable.
