More and more of your electronics are probably using wireless technology to connect to the Internet and receive TV signals. If your computer, TV or other device isn't receiving a clear signal, you can enhance your reception with an antenna. Here are some tips on how to extend the range of your devices and get a clear, reliable signal.
Extend your wireless network. If your computer is too far from your wireless router to get a consistent connection to your network, connect a wireless antenna to your computer's wireless card to help boost the signal. You can also extend the network range by connecting a signal booster antenna to the router.
Improve your TV reception. Most TV broadcast signals are now digital. But if the signal is weak, you can get pixilation or choppy video on your HDTV, and traditional antennas only provide so much help. An HDTV antenna can help you get better reception. You can pick up a directional digital antenna and experiment with its position or use an omnidirectional antenna can pick up signals.
Avoid metal framework. If you live in an older building with a large metal frame, wireless signals can have a hard time getting through to your computer. Metal fire escapes can have the same effect. Try to place your antennae near a window to get around the metal framework and improve your reception.
Check for loose wires. Old antennas can have loose wires, especially if they get moved around a lot. Check the connections and replace them if they're loose or broken.
Move your antenna to a better location. If possible, mount TV antennas on the exterior of your house. Experiment with placement and orientation before you attach the antenna to your roof or exterior wall.
