Nothing will bring more immediate relief to a hot summer day than a portable air conditioner. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Then, go back into the kitchen with a portable air conditioner. A room air conditioner is perfect for that one room that struggles to cool down, and they can give your home an extra boost of cool air on blistering days. Portable air conditioners are reasonably easy to use, but there are still a few things you should know. Using portable air conditioners correctly will ensure they are able to reliably lower the temperature in any given room. Here are a few tips on using your portable air conditioner.
Vent away. Even portable air conditioning requires some sort of venting. Even though you won't have to actually attach them to a wall, most portable air conditioners will have some sort of venting instructions that come with the unit. Often this includes attaching a hose to a window. Each portable air conditioner will have slightly different requirements, so be sure to read the instructions.
Change the filters. A room air conditioner will likely have a filter that either catches dust particles in the air or, even better, removes odors from the room. Some portable air conditioners will cease to function correctly, or at all, if you don't change the filters frequently. At the very least, the filters will overflow and leave dust in the air and inside the air conditioner.
Change the trays. Chances are your portable air conditioner has a water-removal tray. Condensation will accumulate as the air conditioner cools the room. If you don't change the water trays frequently, it can prevent the air conditioner from functioning correctly. Some portable air conditioners will have a water hose to carry the water out a window or door. If that is the case, make sure not to kink the hose.
Don't blow a fuse. Room air conditioners require a fair amount of electricity to function. As such, be careful not to plug one into a fuse that is already overworked with other home appliances. Plugging an air conditioner into an encumbered plug is asking for a blown fuse.
