How to Load an Electric Stapler

A black electric stapler

Adding some extra convenience to your paper-related projects is easy with an electric stapler. Unlike a regular stapler that requires you to use your hand, an electric stapler simply requires you to move the paper group over a small sensor. A mechanism then launches the staple into the paper with no undue stress. You can even find heavy-duty electric staplers for stapling thick packets of paper and rapid electric staplers for high-volume stapling. However, even the best electric stapler needs to be refilled now and then. Take a look below to learn how to load an electric stapler.

Loading an Electric Stapler:

  1. Turn off the electric stapler. Depending on your model, you may press an "On/Off" button or simply disconnect the stapler from a wall outlet. It is important to make sure all the mechanisms are not getting power before you go poking around inside. You probably won't get zapped, but you could set off the stapler accidentally.

  2. Open the top of the electric stapler. Some units will allow you to simply lift up the top of the device, while others will require you to use your finger to press a release button or lever. Doing so will reveal the inside of the electric stapler as well as the front-loading mechanism, which is where the staples go.

  3. Pull out the front-loading mechanism. This is where the staples sit, and the compartment looks just like the loading mechanism on a regular mechanical stapler. Insert a strip of standard-sized staples into the front-loading mechanism, making sure that the spring is pushing the staples tightly against the front of the device.

  4. Replace the loading mechanism. Push the front-loading mechanism back into the stapler. Once it has clicked back into place, push the lid of the top of the stapler back into place as well.

  5. Turn the electric stapler on again. Either press the "On/Off" button once again or plug it back into a wall outlet. Use the electric stapler a couple times just to verify that you have loaded it properly. You can now resume using the stapler as normal until the next time you need to insert more staples.
