How to Install a Drop-in Kitchen Sink

Installing a Drop-in Sink:

1. Mark the location. Mark the kitchen sink location. Use masking tape on and near the location for the sink measurement. Next, mark the sink location per instructions. Mark the sink hole location smaller than the sink by using the template provided by the manufacturer.

2. Confirm the location. Confirm location. Set the sink upside down on the marked location to check spacing. Make sure that there is some space between the front edge of the counter and the sink. Check to see if the sink is aligned evenly as desired. Remove sink after confirming location.

3. Scribe sink hole location. Use a retractable knife or sharp awl to scribe along sink hole location using the manufacturer's template. If the sink hole has straight edges, use a straight-edge tool to assist the scribing process.

4. Make the starter hole. Make a starter hole near, but not centered on, the scribed hole line. The starter hole should be slightly larger than the saber saw blade or rotary cutting tool bit. The purpose of this hole is to provide a starting place for the cutting tool.

5. Cut hole. Cut out the sink hole with a cutting tool. Be careful to keep the lines in correct position. Make sure to use at least two sources of light while you work, as shadows can obscure the cutting locations as you move the tool. Don't rush cutting: Let the tool do the work. Medium pressure on the tool and sharp, new cutting bits or blades will create a clean cut.

6. Clean up the edges. Using sand paper, clean and smooth the edge of the sink hole.

7. Seal the sink edges. Use silicon caulking compound or plumber's putty to seal the sink's edge to the countertop.

8. Lower the sink into place. Gently lower the sink into final position. Work quickly. Clean up excess silicon caulking compound or plumber's putty. Tighten sink fasteners to countertop. Clean area again and prepare to enjoy your new kitchen sink.
