Clarity enhanced diamonds are becoming more popular in jewelry that features diamonds, especially in high-end rings. These stones are stable and durable gems, just like untreated diamonds, but they require some special care to ensure they stay beautiful for years. Clarity enhanced diamonds don't need a lot of extra care, just some routine maintenance.

Use the right cleaning products. Never use ammonia or an ammonia-based cleanser on clarity enhanced diamonds (even though ammonia can be used to clean unenhanced diamonds). Ammonia is abrasive and can damage the enhancements. Instead, use mild dish soap or find a jewelry cleanser that is safe for pearls; a solution that is safe for pearls will be safe for your clarity enhanced diamonds.
Clean your jewelry carefully. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of dish soap with 1 cup of warm water in a glass bowl. Let the jewelry soak in the solution for 15 minutes, and then use a soft toothbrush to scrub away dirt and grease; be gentle to avoid scratching the metal, which is more easily damaged than the stones. Rinse the jewelry in a bowl filled with clean warm water and lay it on a towel to dry.
Store the individual jewelry pieces in their own sections of a jewelry box or armoire. This will help prevent scratches on the stones and the metals. For more information on storing your jewelry, read our guide about organizing a jewelry armoire.
Take special precautions with repairs. Always tell your jeweler that you have a clarity enhanced diamond when you take the piece in for maintenance. Extremely high temperatures, 572 degrees F and higher, can damage the enhancements of fracture-filled or laser-drilled diamonds, so anyone who repairs your jewelry must be careful with certain tools, such as a jeweler's torch. The high temperature won't damage HPHT diamonds, but it could change the color of irradiated stones. The jeweler will also know how to clean the jewelry if you tell him it has a clarity enhanced diamond.
