Has anyone purchased refurbished computers from Overstock? Can you tell me about your experience? Any problems or concerns about refubished computers I should be aware of?

I've purchased them before. My only comment is make sure you check out the person that you are shopping with. You actually have some that are in there to rip-off.

I agree that you should be careful when shopping online, especially when buying from an individual, like with an auction. But I think this person is asking about buying from Overstock directly. I've never bought a laptop from Overstock, but I've bought other refurbished electronics (like headphones). I'd check out other threads here that talk about the details of the refurbishing process before you make a decision. Plus, they have a great return policy, so I'd feel more comfortable buying from them because of that.

I have purchased a refurb laptop from Overstock. I favor Dell and have a corporate account with them through which I have stocked my business with an average of 3 new computers at a time every 3 years. I saw the particular latitude notebooks I desired for "extra" work load and out of office activities. I was so pleased with the quality and performance that I purchased a media base (Overstock did not carry that accessory) with CD/DVD reader and writer for ease of "docking" and now the "extra" has replaced my former laptop/media base setup as my daily "desktop". The laptop performs as expected, and being a long-term and regular Dell user, I know that my needs are met at 1/7 the capital cost. Simply focus on the system needs, be accepting of the blemish or two (mine actually had very, very little superficial "finger nail" type marks on the outer casing) and save some money if you do not require the "latest and greatest" for your particular computing tasks. I have no relation to Overstock and I do purchase new (in my case from Dell) when the need must be satisfied by current manufacturer offerings. Hope this helps.

I purchased a refurbished sony gaming/entertainment laptop (vaio i think) with a 17inch widescreen. It has been fantastic. I haven't had any problems. There was a little wear on the edge, but that was it. This was purchased directly from Overstock, not an individual. I also bought a refurb lcd monitor and it too has been fantastic.

I have one and love it. I stuck with Dell and actually had a problem activating it (My fault) and the company was very proactive.

I just bought a Dell for my brother for christmas. It looks like new just a few small scratches that if your not lookig for them you cant see them, and they are not on the screen, just on the outside. I have not played with it since it is not for me, but I did turn it on to make sure it works, and it does. It started with the new start up screen, so that tells me that new software was loaded on it, and it should run like new. I will try to post again once he gets it and trys it out. I have always had good luck with Dell products in the past. We currently have two Vaios and love them, but if you are trying to save money you should go with a Dell or maybe a Toshiba.

I purchased a refurbished IMB laptop last year for my daughter. The support from O was incredible, we did a live chat a couple of times, as I looked for at least 2 months, reading reviews, checking prices, waiting for the right product at the price I could afford. I was very worried buying a refurbished product, but I was more than happy..... the product was just great, the service was too, and my daughter was very happy.

I bought a Sony all in one that was refurbished. I had a little trouble after afew months, the service people I called at Sony were vey good and they replaced the unit as they were unable to fix it. Since they did I have had no problems. I would order again from overstock,

I have purchased three Lattitude series Dell laptops (Win 2k and WInXP based ) and one Dell Desktop (Win 2k that I ugraded after 2 years to Win XP) from Overstock. The desktop has lasted the longest as I was able to max out memory, upgrade the CPU to 3.0 Ghz P4 and install Win XP Pro on it (it came with WIN 2k, yes that was a long time back). Here is what you need to know about buying refurb'd computers from anyone. They have the OS (probably WIN XP or VIsta at this point) preloaded on the hard drive (C:). They usually DO NOT HAVE all the other sw you get with a new computer (like MS Office trial copies), which many people call bloat-ware; but that also extends to specific drivers for your hardware and anti-virus SW, which is important for you to have. So, I recommend ONLY buying computer manufacturers that allow you to go to their support website and download all the drivers originally intended fror the HW you baought. This will dramatically speed up your HW and ensure you get all the intended functions of each HW device (like call waiting for dial modems, etc.). DELL, LENOVO and SONY all allow you to do this, will even scan your HW (if you let them download a little program that does such a thing), discover your model and serial number and then lookup the original OS driver contents fopr you. It is then a simple matter to download and install all the right drivers from the list they provide. You have to read it all to ensure you're gettign what you are supposed to, but hey! It's a lot simpler than it sounds... BTW, All my DELL laptops ended up having diplay problems and I was able to find replacement flsat panels and repair them myself, so it was ok. WHy am I telling you this? Well, as a person buying a used laptop, you should know that flat panel displays have a specific lifespan. Some even have "class" problems, so go to the manufacturers websites and read thru the support posts for the model you want to buy and see what problems peple are having with them. Buyer beware. best of luck to you...

I purchased a refurbished Dell laptop recently. Arrived in the original box. Appears like new. Not even a finger print. So far it functions perfectly.
