Hello torsie, We apologize for the delay in resolving your request. Our warehouse has confirmed that when the recliner is fully open and laid back, it is in a "laying position, though not completely flat. The seat measures 21w x 24d x 18h  foot rest is 16.5 high from the floor when it is reclined. I hope this information was useful to you.
