Expanding horizons with art reproductions
-
I am thinking of redecorating our home with reproductions of art considered exceptional by famous historical artists. I'm thinking along the lines of Vincent Van Gogh's 'The Starry Night'. -- http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Vincent-Van-Gogh-The-Starry-Night-Canvas-Art/4709131/product.html -- Would anyone care to suggest paintings that would provide exposure to great art that would also be child friendly? I am afraid that my knowledge of art history is minimal to the point of ignorance, but want to give my children the chance to experience great art and learn to value their creative impulse.

Some of my faves are Renoir, Monet, Mary Cassat,Botticelli, Raphael, Some Gustav Klimt would be kid friendly, (some wouldn't), John William Waterhouse is also one of my faves, just to name a few. There are also a lot of modern day artist on etsy.Art should speak to you that's what matters not the name on the painting. I could no more pick a painting for you than any other thing. I would suggest to buy a book on art or go to a museum. Museums are a reasonably cheap outing and is very enjoyable. Or google reproduction paintings or famous works of art just to get familiar. Good luck on your venture and kudos to you for wanting to be more cultured.

Well, I am actually an artist myself, and I actually just purchased this piece here on the big O that I love: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Joel-Ganucheau-Underground-Wrapped-Canvas-Art/3007677/product.html As the other reviewer said - buy what speaks to you, and this one does speak to me. I just love the sense of mystery in it.. (i.e. - you can't see the girl's face or head, that part is off the canvas).. I also love that purchasing this piece SUPPORTS A LIVING ARTIST!! He even has a gallery in Texas, and he's very talented. There are also other pieces of his here on O. Check it out... Very good quality, IMHO.
