Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

For 30 years, Best Friends Animal Society has been focused on saving the lives of homeless dogs and cats. This work started with building the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals - now a temporary home to some 1,700 animals on any given day - and expanded to developing effective programs all across the country that reduce the number of animals entering shelters and increase the number who find homes. In its largest national effort yet, Best Friends is leading grassroots no-kill coalitions to turn Los Angeles into a no-kill city by 2017 and Utah a no-kill state by 2019.

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

The Sanctuary

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1984 as a home-between-homes for animals with special needs, a healing place unlike anywhere else on earth. Nestled in the red rock canyons of southern Utah, the Sanctuary also serves as the headquarters for Best Friends' work around the nation to save the lives of all pets in shelters. Please visit, volunteer, adopt, and be a part of the magic.

About Best Friends Animal Society

For 30 years, Best Friends Animal Society has been focused on saving the lives of homeless dogs and cats. In its largest national effort yet, Best Friends is leading grassroots no-kill coalitions to turn Los Angeles into a no-kill city by 2017 and Utah a no-kill state by 2019.

When Best Friends was founded in 1984, 17 million animals died every year in shelters across the country. Today, that number is down to about 4 million. That's incredible progress, but it also means that more than 9,000 wonderful dogs and cats are still losing their lives every day. Together, we can change that.
