In July 2011, Overstock.com launched Overstock.com Insurance. This business allows consumers in all 50 states to submit insurance information and immediately receive free, side-by-side quotes from as many as 20 leading insurance providers. The service also streamlines the quote and buying process so that policies offered can be purchased online or over the phone through Overstock.com's insurance partner, Answer Financial.

Launched in late 2009, O.biz is a site where customers and small businesses can piggy-back on the buying power of Overstock.com to save money on bulk and business purchases. O.biz is your business-to-business shopping destination for office supplies, restaurant supplies, hotel supplies, office furniture and more. We give customers, including small to medium-sized businesses, an opportunity to shop for bulk and business-related items conveniently, while offering manufacturers, distributors and other retailers an alternative sales channel for liquidating their inventory.

Our History
In the spring of 1999, Dr. Patrick M. Byrne recognized the potential in liquidating excess inventory through the Internet. Up until then, bargain-seeking consumers had relied upon far-off outlet centers with crowds and limited product selections, and small retailers found little access into the world of closeout merchandise. Meanwhile, adoption of online shopping was skyrocketing. Six months later and with no outside funding, Overstock.com was launched with the mission of being the premier company selling excess inventory through the Internet. Founded on the principles of value, investing, and fair dealing, Overstock.com has quickly become the online leader in a market valued at $60 billion in the United States. Overstock.com's GAAP revenue has grown from $1.8 million in 1999 to nearly $1.1 billion in 2010. The number of products Overstock.com offers has grown from less than 100 in 1999 to more than 63,000 non-BMMG (Books, Music, Movies and Games) products and over 720,000 BMMG products. Overstock.com calculates that, since launching in October 1999, our customers have saved millions of dollars off the manufacturers' recommended retail prices.
In January 2011, Overstock.com acquired the O.co URL and slowly began incorporating it into parts of its brand. In June 2011, the O.co Coliseum was unveiled in Oakland, California and Overstock.com became 'Overstock.com, shortcut O.co'. Overstock.com CEO Dr. Patrick M. Byrne has said, "When we first started our business in 1999, we only sold surplus inventory, yet we are now no longer just an online liquidator. Our current offerings span from furniture and home decor to cars, travel and insurance. We want an identity that more accurately reflects our company as it has evolved: Hence 'O.co'. Our customers have long associated 'O' with O.co, which is making the transition to O.co seamless. O.co still carries all of the same products, has award winning customer service, has the same $2.95 or lower national shipping and customized shopping features. Globally, we are synonymous with the 'O,' making this a natural transition of our brand to a universally understandable and relevant domain. We now have a shorter name, but we still have the same big savings.
