    Story Behind the Art

    These items are completely handmade in Kathmandu, Nepal. Whereas most jewelry nowadays, even handmade, is cast, these pieces start as a bullion or brick of pure silver. The jewelers have learned from their parents and work hard to preserve their craft by handing it down to their children. Rather than going out to a factory, which would break up the family structure that has existed in Nepal for hundreds of years, jewelers work out of their houses, often at their kitchen tables where the whole family takes some part in the creative process.

    All carat weights and measurements are approximate and may vary slightly from the listed dimensions. Treatment code E (amethyst, lapis, onyx) and N (moonstone). See Gemstone Treatments for further information.
