Story Behind The Art

This item was handmade in a small studio near the Mediterranean Sea in Israel that is situated in an agricultural village called Bnei Tzion. Ika and Rami Hamburg run the studio and participate in a special program that employs several handicapped people who do stone setting and glass cutting work. The silver used in this jewelry is 90-percent recycled and the 2,000 year old roman glass shards are also recycled. Ika and Rami have developed a unique way of setting roman glass, stones, and pearls into the silver; they inlay them so that all the tiny materials are hand-placed and create a rich mosaic texture and look. Due to the continued disputes in Israel the economy is depressed.
