'I learned the art of batik when I was very young, since my mother is a batik artist. I started experimenting with the technique when I was 13 years old, with mori textiles. Now I've learned to create different motifs and to work with other materials, such as silk. My mother still helps me a lot. My mother is my inspiration. She and I still design together, especially the floral and bird motifs that are typical in Pekalongan batik. My husband, Rieckey, also helps me a lot because he knows what people like abroad, and then I can focus on creating. I would like the batik of Bali to become well known around the world, since its beauty is outstanding.'

I purchased the scarf as a gift for a co-worker. It looked much more vibrant on-line than it did when I received it. It is silk, but not the highest quality. I felt that the price I paid for it should have been the price anywhere. It did not seem like a bargain. I liked that the scarf came with the history of the maker.
This is just what I was looking for. The colors, the fabric and the size. Even the box it came it was a treat.
The pattern is beautiful, the fabric is soft and luxurious, the scarf is comfortable to wear. My only disappointment is the color. The pattern background should be cream or ivory according to the website description and photos. It is actually yellow. In both natural and artificial light it is decidedly yellow. It is still pretty, but it would be prettier and go with more outfits if it were ivory. I purchased a similar scarf by the same artist in a blue and cream pattern and the colors on that one are perfect.
