Artisan Yuni Kristina:
'I learned the art of batik when I was very young, since my mother is a batik artist. She has been making batik at home for 23 years, while waiting each day for my father, a fisherman, to come home from the sea. As you can imagine, batik is a part of my life. I started experimenting with the technique when I was 13 years old, with mori textiles. My mother is my inspiration. She and I still design together, especially the floral and bird motifs that are typical in Pekalongan batik. My husband Rieckey also helps me a lot because he knows what people like abroad, and then I can focus on creating. I would like the batik of Bali to become well known around the world, since its beauty is outstanding.'

Lovely, subtle design. Colors not as bold or bright as I expected. Silk is very light weight, gossamer-like. Suitable for tying into many different arrangements. A little too light weight for me to use as a stole.

I love the look of the scarf. My only dissapointment was that it isn't as "silky" soft as I would have liked. I don't know that much about silk, but I was expecting it to be like some of the silk shirts in my closet.

I wanted what the picture showed. In the picture the colors look more vibrant. They are more subdued more brown that a coral color. The material is very nice and very thin.

I love this shawl--it's large and striking with its earthy color palette. It's lightweight because of the silk, so you can wrap and tie it many different ways.
