Story Behind the Art:

Puspasari and her husband wish to preserve a particular aspect of Balinese culture, and so dedicate themselves to the weaving of baskets. The Balinese are renowned for their beautiful baskets, which have become an essential part of everyday living, including religious life. Baskets are used in many ways, from drying rice in the sun to transporting live chickens to the market. For religious ceremonies, freshly woven baskets are chosen because they are regarded as sukla, meaning "new." Puspasari and her husband specialize in making offering baskets for temple ceremonies. They weave a variety of baskets from bamboo and palm leaves. Sometimes they enhance the baskets with painted motifs.
