Story Behind the Art:

Ceramic crafts began in Lampang, Thailand, with the discovery of a local source of white clay ideal for crafting ceramic dinnerware. In the 1960s, economic changes pushed the government to pay more attention to ceramics from Lampang. They offered support for small-scale factories and seminars to motivate Thai ceramic artisans to go abroad to gain experience. A chamber of commerce was founded in 1974. Improvements in technology have produced better quality at lower cost. Today, the Lampang ceramics industry continues to increase the variety and quality of their offerings.
