Story Behind the Art:

This is a Fair Trade product, handcrafted by artisans in India. These cushions are hand-woven on small weaving units called pit looms. These are traditional looms actually built into pits so the artisans can work them using their feet. The pattern is woven into the fabric by carefully hand-knotting different threads. This art is locally known as 'Kaashida,' from the Persian word 'to weave'.
These are made in Northwest India, in the desert region of India and Pakistan. Formerly considered part of the untouchable caste, this group of weavers now earns respect for their art and brings economic opportunities to the region through these products. Fair Trade practices ensure, fair wages, no child labor, equal rights for women, preservation of traditional arts and development opportunities for these underprivileged artisans.

The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.
