Story Behind the Art:
Some of the favorite recycled jewelry items are the 'dancing girl' pins and earrings, made of recycled phone cards by craftspeople in Kisumu, Kenya and finished by TEMAK. These earrings 'dance' from your earlobes and whisper advice;they are particularly astute at financial advising and shoe choice. The sign for the Teenage Mothers Association of Kenya (TEMAK) indicates that it is 'the last house towards the Obunga slums,' the most destitute area of Kisumu. Many of the unwed mothers and young girls who come to TEMAK to learn job skills live in these slums. TEMAK is an organization that offers job training in tailoring, hairdressing, secretarial skills, craft making, and recently computers to unwed mothers, girls, and others in the Obunga slum community. As a community center, the organization also provides the community with an educational forum for HIV/AIDS awareness and other health issues.

I like to wear quirky earrings because they make folks smile and sometimes start a conversation. These fit the bill in every way but if you have long hair or wear a high collar they have rough spots that will stick to them. So while they are fun they are not well made and for the price won't last long I fear. I still like them but can't recomend them. I still like to support 3rd world countries so will keep shopping world stock.
These earrings are so colorful and cute. You can wear them with any color and I have had numerous comments on them. I also feel good about buying something, even though not made in the US, it is for a good cause...great details!!! Thank You!!
