From roughly 1890 to 1930 the main source of wool was Manchester UK. That wool was fine soft garment wool that was processed in Manchester from Merino sheep. After 1930 the primary source of wool has been Sabzavar, a neighboring province of Kashan. Kashan rugs are the most conservative of all persian rugs. They are not nearly as adventurous as Qum or as fine as Isfahan rugs but Kashan maintains a consistent look. Quality is a different matter. Often good sometimes great Kashan rugs are home production not workshop rugs. You can expect to find three distinct grades of Kashan from the high-end ultra fine examples to the Bazaar quality.
Slight variation in the color, design and size in each piece is normal in handmade rugs. Due to the difference of monitor colors, some rug colors may vary slightly. Overstock.com tries to represent all rug colors accurately. Please refer to the text above for a description of the colors shown in the photo. All rug sizes are approximate.

The quality is better than I expected. It goes well with another red/blue rug I have. Please note there are much more redness than any other colors. Overstocks seems to be constantly having 15% off rug sale. Wait for that if you can.

Another wonderful surprise!!! This rug is exactly as pictured and the pile is dense and even, and the colors vibrant. It looks great in my hallway. If you are in the market for a beautiful runner, Order before they are all gone!!

Runner pattern was exactly as pictured, appears new with dense nap of about 1/2 inch total rug thickness. Nap is of a fine textured wool. Bright colors, i.e. not tea washed. This is the second rug, as the first one shipped was about 3 feet short of the listed 9 foot length. Overstocks customer service gets high marks for a no hassle return. This rug is of a higher quality than the 3 x 5 foot Kashan that I also ordered.
