Story Behind the Art

Woven in the central Iranian provinces of Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiari, these are among the most prized Persian rugs. The luxurious wool of the region and the expert craftsmanship of the rug weavers have made these rugs famous throughout the world. The Bakhtiari tribe, from which these rugs get their name, is one of the most ancient and respected Persian tribes. Bakhtiari patterns tend to be mostly geometric, sometimes semi-geometric, but seldom curvilinear. This charming rug is approximately 40 years old but has been kept in excellent overall condition.
