Desak Putu Rai works the leaves in a harmonious combination of dexterity and creativity. Bali's natural wonders surrounding her prove to be a never-ending source of inspiration. Each basket can take up to seven days to finish - a lengthy process enjoyed most when able to chat and share stories with her fellow weavers.
'I began learning palm basketry from the neighboring craftsmen in 1990, and opened my own roadside shop in 1995. This is now our family business, and we enjoy it very much.'

I feel almost guilty for the price vs the value received with this basket. It is absolutely beautiful in design and craftsmanship. I love to hold the basket to feel the good emanations from it and imagine someone halfway around the world putting days into its creation. I bought it as a gift but wish I'd kept it now since I can't imagine anyone appreciating it more than me! This basket was more than worth the money.

the weaving on this basket is impeccable. it looks even better in person than the online pic, the lid fit's snug, and it's perfect for my little nic-nacs in the bedroom.... ordered monday, received 8 business days later, and that's with overstocks $2.95 shipping on an 11 item order, this coming from indonesia!(i tracked it through fed-ex) awesome! will definately be back for more
