Story Behind the Art: Alberto Ruiz

'Hola! I'm from a town in Oaxaca, Mexico dedicated to weaving. I am the fourth generation of my family to practice this craft. As a child I watched my father loom while my mother and grandmother carded and dyed the wool. The sheep are sheared twice a year. We pick and wash the fleece. We card it with wire brushes so that it is soft. We wash it. We then spin and dye it using dyes from bugs, rocks and flowers. To dye, we soak the materials in a pot of water for at least a month, then boil. We immerse the hanks of yarn for half an hour and then dry them. We use reed bobbins, and we wind the yarn on them, warp the handloom, and weave the rug.

The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.

Tip: We recommend the use of a non-skid pad to keep the rug in place on smooth surfaces.
