Our Maru Japanese paper lantern is crafted from tough pressed pulp reinforced rice paper, on horizontal matchstick splines and vertical wire splines. The lantern comes with a white colored socket, wiring and switch. The lantern is UL approved for up to a 60 watt bulb.
The Story Behind the Product
This factory is located in the Guangdong region of mainland China. The father is the main person in charge and employs many family members. Day to day operations are run by an aunt while the son is being groomed to take over once his father retires - all of this family greatly adds to the quality and productivity of this factory. Over 300 skilled and non-skilled craftsman work together, passing knowledge and craftsmanship from generation to generation. The working conditions of this group are excellent. The factory provides an excellent lunch each day for the staff. This Maru ball light is perfect for the Japanese-style decor in my son's room. Adds a good amount of light where no ceiling light exists. While it's made of paper, it's fairly sturdy and puts off a good amount of light. Everything works fine, the switch is well-placed (well down on the cord) keeping in mind that the ball is intended to be hung at ceiling height. Very good design, style and value for the money!

These are beautiful, but HUGE (2 feet across). Light is very good from them. If you have a small house, rethink buying these!

I put this in my screened in porch . Hung on ceiling and ran cord down wall to plug in. Very easy to assemble, and also an easy way to add some style to an outdoor "room".

I originally bought this product just to have added light over a small desk in my bedroom. However, I never expected what a beautiful accent piece it would make. The overall light from this gorgeous lamp covers the entire room in a soft glow. It could make any room in a house or apartment look rich and inviting. This is definitely a thumbs-up product.

Aside from one of the horizontal pieces being bent, it's a nice lamp for a VERY casual setting. I would not say it's very durable as it is made by hand from rice paper and bamboo, but it works well for my use and adds a bit of an artsy touch. I purchased it for my screened porch and it is perfect out there with my rattan and wicker furnishings. Very south Pacific!
