Yes, there is a smell as indicated in the other reviews. But it's not that intolerable. You can air it out in the garage for a few days before bringing it into the house. I also recommend that you cover the magnetic clasps with felt which will allow the doors to open more easily and shut smoothly. After that, it¿s ready for your enjoyment!! The piece is gorgeous and made very well. Also, it is a great price for such a nice piece of furniture.

My bench arrived with some pieced chipped off and one of the top scrolls broken off. The bench looks nice IF it arrives in one piece. I got a replacement, but the workmanship on the second one wasn't as good as the first-- the doors fit very snugly and were slightly uneven and it was difficult to open them. I thought it was a little expensive for what it was, but it served the purpose I needed, so I kept it.

After looking long and hard for the perfect bed bench, I found this Mango wood and Reed storage bench on Overstock, the size was perfect, my comforter does not end up on the floor. Matches my Hawasiian themed room to a T. This has alot of stoage rather than a bench with legs, I absolutely love this and would recommend to everyone who's in the market for a new piece of furniture, would work anywhere in home, and would compliment any decor. It did have a slight odor that others complained about, but hubby wiped the finish down with a soft rag, a voila, no more odor, some residue came off so, you must wipe down as you wouldn,t want to get any of that finish on your beddings or curtains. As easy a dusting a coffee table. The worksmanship is A+. I ordered this on a Sunday and it was delivered on Wednesday. Great customer service. Just wish they had this in a headboard to match.Definitely HAPPY

I received this bench as a gift and it is exactly as described and even more beautiful in person! The craftmanship is incredible - I can't believe all we had to do was take it out of the box! Now it fits perfectly in our living room, hides some of our mess, and is additional seating for when we have guests. Great gift!

Okay I agree with everyone else that this is stinky when you first pull it out of the box but I think it's because of the stain. It wore off a few days later. Came ready to pull out of the box and put in my house. I love the storage and it's perfect for what I wanted it for...extra storage in the kitchen area under a window. I didn't want anything too high like a sideboard because people wouldn't see a nasty back of something from outside. This doesn't go that high and also adds for extra seating when we have a party.

Very nice bench. Well packed and arrived with no damage. Is light enough for a single person to move but seems very solid so far. A 220lb person has sat on it and there was no creaking or bowing. Doors have magnets and will stay shut without the pins, so it is not a problem to leave the pins off if accessing contents often. At first I thought the doors were sticking, but it turns out the magnets are really strong. Using it in the entry way to store shoes and sit on when changing shoes. The slatted doors are nice, because they allow ventilation. It's nice to be able to order a well made bench like this via mail, that doesn't require assembly.

We used this storage bench under our flat screen. The bench is the perfect proportion under our 42 inch flat screen. The bench houses our dvd player and digital cable box. There is plenty of room for video game equipment etc. The slats in the front of the bench allows remote control signals to the equipment. We drilled a 1 1/4 inch hole in the very back of the bench to allow for electrical and equipment cords. It is the perfect piece of furniture for what we are using it for and it goes beautifully with our caribbean style decor. The odor that some of the other reviewers talked about was not an issue what so ever.

This is a great piece and it was perfect for the spot I needed to fill! A shade darker than pictures (which I wanted) - I had read past reviews and it matched our existing wood.

the bench is great, it came well packaged and nothing was broken or even scratched. at first it did have a little smell to it, but it just needed to be let out of the box and a quick wipe down does it. It fits perfect in the room and we use it to put shoes in! it's awesome, it completed our room!

i use this bench as a tv stand/entertainment cabinet. i have a 32" lcd tv which fits perfectly on the bench. in the storage area underneath i have a receiver, dvd player, vcr, and wii. everything fits quite well and the bench looks beautiful. highly recommended.

We just got ours in, and it is beautiful! I don't know about anyone else, but ours was a little darker than the photos. That was a good thing for us, we were wanting something a little darker. We are using it as a media component storage below the wall mounted tv. It is definitely true what people were saying about the varnish on it. We could definitely smell it, and did take quite a bit off with a rag when we took it out of the box. No doubt the varnish smell will be gone in a few days... but we have no regrets about the item. It looks amazing!

I'm using it as a coffee table. Nice looking- has an exotic, rustic look. I think the scale is off a little.Would like it to be a little wider. Back of it is plain (which is not a concern if you are putting it against a wall.

This is really a beautiful piece that is remarkably low priced, in my opinion. The colors are such that it can go almost anywhere with the two tones...we are considering ordering another one for a different room!

We purchased this storage bench to use as an entertainment stand. It was deep enough to house our Tivo, tuner, DVD player, etc once we cut a whole in the back for the wires. It arrived with some minor damage so am not sure if that's due to poor workmanship or poor shipping.Overall we are really happy with the bench and it looks great in our house.

The product arrived in excellent condition and is a quality piece of furniture other than the fact that there is SO MUCH varnish covering every inch of the bench. I had to air out the house the first day because the smell was so strong. The varnish is still covering the reed sitting portion of the bench, making it impossible to sit on unless one wants their clothes to get stained. Scrubbing with a towel did not remove enough of the varnish, unlike what some other reviewers had recommended.
