The Story Behind the Product
This product was made in the central region of India. When the British removed its armed forces from the region in the late 1940s, a majority of the industries that had been assisting the local economies also left. The indigenous people returned to traditional crafts and furniture building they had known for generations. Several hub cities of industry have flourished, creating numerous stable jobs for the people of the surrounding villages, assisting them through the time between harsh growing seasons. The industry that produced this product has also assisted in the creation of schools, hospitals, and general improvements to the infrastructure. The artisans involved hope you will continue to assist in their efforts to make a better life for themselves and their children.

The photo of these tables makes them look like they are finished furniture. They are not, they are raw wood which is does not have a nice even grain as the picture depicts. The color is yellowish-grey and rather mottled. I tried a couple of different stains (on the bottom of one of them) that I thought would make them a closer match for the rest of our wood furniture, but the colors are kind of off due to the basic color of the wood. None of the color swatches at the home store include mango-wood, so I guess that I'll have to keep working on that. I bought them to replace a plant stand, so large areas of the wood are not visible anyway and they are working fine for that purpose, but I do hope to find a finish sealer to avoid possible water staining that still looks o.k. Other than the finish/wood color, the tables seem to be very sturdy and well constructed. I would recommend them IF you keep the above issues in mind.
