Mango wood is indigenous to Northern Thailand, where Suwichack Ampanan oversees five artisans, but remains actively involved in most every piece that leaves his workshop. Ampanan learned the trade 15 years ago from his father, and hopes to pass this tradition to his children when they are old enough. By employing other locals, Ampanan provides the opportunity for a better standard of living than farming, where 90-percent of the people in this village work. All mango wood products from Ampanan's workshop are environmentally responsible. When the mango tree can no longer bear fruit (after 25-30 years), he and his artisans take these trees to express their creative talents. Circa Asia ensures these artisans are paid fairly and work in safe conditions.
