Well, after the buildup by those who raved about this item, I was a bit disappointed. The stain on the wood looks cheaply done...and the leather strips are merely stuck with carpet tacks. So I don't think it is a wonderful artisan creation by any means. I put it in front of a chair for foot rest. it's okay.

Yeah, probably its my fault for not getting out a tape and figuring out that 11.8" for the height is not much of a stool. This my only purchase from overstock that I am truly disappointed about. If you have ever played with Tinker Toys then you should be able to put this together in less than 5 seconds. Now that I purchased this stool I see them in furnishing stores everywhere...same quality, less price but actually functional.

The stool was not only a great deal but a wonderful piece of art. My wife uses it for her makeup table.
