From the mid 19th-century onward, Mahal rugs were exclusively made for the European market. Warps, foundation, and wefts are cotton, and the pile is wool. The wool of the Mahal rugs is hand spun usually from the weaver's own sheep. The rugs are woven using asymmetrical Turkish knots to tie each loop one by one. Rugs had designs based on small repeating floral patterns as well as all-over large scale lattice vine patterns. Foreign companies as well as local merchants adopted a similar system, causing Mahal carpets to become carpets of the highest decorative value.

Customer Reviews
Okay after painstaking research online and agonizing debate I decided to take a chance on this product. The rug is actually thin and not as tightly woven as most wool rugs I have seen. The colors are pretty bad. They show up (on more than one monitor mind you so it is NOT my computer) as a bright ivory with a light olive green, terracotta, and lighter grey blue. In reality you will get a clearly beige rug (very dark beige) with dark country blue accents, dark olive, and dark rust brown. It is by far the most hideous color combo for my room. I certainly wish overstock would allow customers to post pictures as I would post one and any other person would be able to clearly see the differences. I will be seeing about a refund. I am beyond disappointed....
