Since the 11th Century, Tabriz, Iran, has been one of the most important rug-weaving centers in the world. One of the finest eras of rug weaving was the 16th Century, when the Safavids made the city into an artistic and poetic center of Persian culture, including fine rugs. Today, many rugs produced in Tabriz follow the incredible artistic tradition of Persian Safavids. Tabriz has kept these ancient traditions alive for hundreds of years, in spite of conquests and political upheaval. Today, Tabriz rugs are of great interest to interior designers who look for Persian rugs of the highest value.
