Artisan Story
Brazil is an incredibly diverse country, both geographically and culturally. Artisans who make jewelry have tremendous resources within Brazil, especially in the state of Minas Gerais, where artisans work with natural materials such as seeds, sod, shells, animal teeth, and the plentiful sources of gold and precious stones, especially in its riverbeds and soils. It is in the cities of Minas Gerais where some of Brazil's first notable artists flourished. Belo Horizonte is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais. Gold, manganese, and gem stones of the surrounding region are processed in the city. Belo Horizonte is also a leading cultural center, with three universities, a historical museum, numerous libraries, and sports stadiums.
