Handcrafted by artisans in Ghana, this African djembe drum is carved from a single piece of sese wood with a goatskin head and lacings.
West Africa's most popular drum, the djembe has a remarkably flexible range of tones, produced by its thin skin, shape, and tight tuning. Today, this drum is gaining popularity throughout the world as a great addition to drumming circles, rituals, gatherings, or to play alone.
The Story Behind the Product
Nana was born to a family of 9 children in the town of Kumasi in Ghana, West Africa. His parents divorced when he was only 8 years old and Nana became so rebellious that his mother sent him to live with his father in Tamale (in the Northern region of Ghana) when Nana was 12 years old. It was there that he developed an interest in art. He dropped out of school when he was 14 and started training with a master carver in Tamale. In 2000 Nana began selling his products through Worldstock. Nana is now married with 3 children and lives in Accra, Ghana. He is now a master carver with his own shop and 10 employees. Nana?s life has been so improved since he began working with Worldstock that he named his son after his contact at Overtsock.com.

Customer Reviews
I received this drum from my father for my birthday. I am a casual drummer, but am particular about the sound of my instrument. This drum came in beautiful condition...carvings unique...and sounds fantastic. I know that we could have bought a similar drum for much more money in shops(we checked around before purchasing). I think that this Djembe is well worth the money and is the perfect drum for a circle drummer like myself.
You cannot find a better hand made drum anywhere for this price. Buy it now and you won't be disappointed. Awesome sound too.
This was a birthday gift for my husband (age 51), who has had and played drums since childhood...and is quite good. After watching the film "The Visitor", I thought I'd give him a Djembe. I don't think I've ever made him happier with a gift...he plays it every night...in his man cave (the basement). It is also beautiful...a true piece of art that you could simply display. Please convey to the artisians...Nana and friends in Ghana...thank you!
great buy! better than expected, looks great and sound good.
This is a great looking drum and makes a wonderful sound. The bass note is not a deep as some drums, but the open tone and slap is great. I love playing my Djembe.
