This Batik tapestry is hand-painted using the ancient 'La Ran' technique. Known contemporarily as the 'wax dye' technique, this ancient art form hails from the southwestern regions of China. It involves applying wax on hand-woven fabric to prevent certain areas from absorbing the dye. As the process is repeated, an intricate pattern begins to emerge.
The Butterfly Lady tapestry features a young girl with exotic traditional clothing and playing with whimsical butterflies. The piece is double-backed for additional strength and stability and features a loop on top for the insertion of a hanging rod.
The Story Behind the Art
These beautiful tapestries are one of the traditional art pieces created by the Chinese minority known as Miao people who live in the Southwestern part of China. i love the color price is a bit high for quality. doesnt hang straight. all in all i do like it just wouldnt buy another

very pretty to look at with vibrant color and original handcrafted piece of art - somewhat a "pain" to assemble be ware you will need to get out and buy a rod or something ellse to attach it to the wall, I would not recommend to use tape or nails on it - this would destroy the beautiful design. and may compromise the handpainted colors. It looks great in my bedroom. however, it seems a bit over priced.

Purchased this readily after being so pleased with another similar type. Significant disappointments in the finishing; ragged sides, threads, just as though when made, someone was rushing and forgot the rest of the product. The painting itself is wonderful, no complaint. If you don't mind finishing it with scizzors it's a great deal. Also didn't remember "a blue background" being stated, and although it works, found black much more stunning with this genre of tapestry.
