Saharanpur is the most productive center for wood carving. It is known for its Shisham and teak products and for its wood seasoning. Its wood preparation processes makes the wood resistant to cracking and splitting. There are a number of craft organizations that help women artisans and the most underprivileged artisans in rural areas. Artisan communities are always looking for markets to give them enough sales volume to lift themselves out of poverty.

I bought these as a gift and I am sending them back. I would be embarrassed to give these to any one. The tops are "hand carved". They look very sloppy and the carvings have chips in them that were not sanded down. I really can't even explain how awful these look. I'm really disappointed in the workmanship and quality.
