Story Behind the Art:
Asante is a pillar of his community, employing scores of carvers in his large craft shop. This has given much needed employment in the area. He also involves several villages in his trade which boosts the local economy. He is a community activist who believes in education and works to improve the quality of life in his neighborhood.

I got this piece as a gift for my principal who enjoys African art. I opened the box to make sure it arrived in good condition, which it did. The piece was beautifully carved but very poorly wrapped and shipped. The packaging was a mess! I had to find another box big enough and purchase packing materials to wrap it in before gift wrapping it. The statue also has a strong odor of wood which isn't that bad but can be overpowering. The one thing I would have added was the story behind the meaning of the statue and the information about the artist. I typed up a sheet to go with the statue because I thought that the information about it was part of the appeal. I would recommend this to anyone who likes African artwork.
