This contemporary coffee table adds an African accent to your decorating scheme.

Handmade by artisans in Ghana, this table's shape suggests an hourglass in chocolate- and rust-finished wood. It's made from sturdy sese wood, which is common in Ghana. Sese wood is often used for handcarved pieces, because of its durablity and resistance to cracking. A closer look at the table reveals the shape of a woman carrying the tabletop on her head. Handcarved geometric trim highlighted with white paint accents every surface.

    The Story Behind the Product

Akwasi Agyeman was born into a family of 12 children in the small tribal village of Foase in Ghana, West Africa. The family was so poor that Akwasi was limited to only a 7th grade education in order to help his father farm to feed the family. In 7th grade his teacher asked each of them to make something for art class. Akwasi produced a Fertility Doll as his project and amazed the teacher. Akwasi knew then he had a natural talent for carving. After ten years and with the help of Fair trade Akwasi is now married with two handsome boys. He employs 15 people and has built a small three bedroom house for his family. Akwasi and his fellow artisans hope you enjoy their work.

I was very pleased with the item I purchased. For the price it was well worth it.

Adorable & Functional

jewel8254 from STL, Sep 5, 2009

I purchased 2 of these tables several years ago as accent tables for chairs that needed just a tiny bit of something to complete the look. I've never been disappointed with my purchase. They are very well crafted, hold a coaster + drink or a book. The dimensions clearly state they are very small in height and circumference. I love, love, love my tables. Now I'm looking for 3 more, again as accent pieces only. I'll be looking for more items from the same craftsman. Bravo for a job well done!

IT HAS A FACE! The description does NOT tell you it has a face nor does the picture have a direct angle so that you can see the face. My daughter likes it so I gave it to her & I'll see about buying something different.

Too Small

Soo disappointed! Very small, not carved well, Definitely not worth the money. Won't return because of shipping costs. One of my worst Overstock purchases.

My sister Christmas

My sister started collecting african art a couple years ago. She opened her gift this year and loved the handcarved table. She thinks I'm a big spender now. It's beautiful.
