The Story Behind the Art:

Whereas most jewelry nowadays, even 'handmade' jewelry, is cast, this jewelry starts as a bullion or brick of pure silver which is alloyed, shaped, cut, and hammered into shape completely by hand. Even the jump rings and ear wires are made completely by hand. The jewelers have learned from their parents and work hard to preserve their craft by handing it down to their children. Rather than going out to a factory, which would break up the family structure that has existed in Nepal for hundreds of years, jewelers work out of their houses, often at their kitchen tables where the whole family takes some part in the creative process.
